M247 Global participated in SiGMA Euro-Med 2025, one of the largest events dedicated to the iGaming industry – a true hub of innovation that brought together over 12,000 participants from all over the world in Malta. The event, hosted at the Mediterranean Maritime Hub and several other venues across the island, combined formal panels, exhibitions, and unconventional networking formats (including C-Level golf and poker tournaments), offering unique opportunities for idea exchange among leaders, regulators, affiliates, and innovators.
The M247 Global team – represented by Miruna Alexandru, Elena Puica, and Alexandra Davidescu (Business Development Managers) – made the most of every moment to connect with industry leaders, including operators, payment processors, and crypto experts. They brought home the most relevant news and insights about current challenges and the future of iGaming, technology, and digital economies.
Some of the hottest topics discussed at the event included how cloud solutions and AI technologies are supporting the iGaming industry, as well as the challenges operators are facing.
Cloud in iGaming. New challenges and solutions on the horizon
The discussions at SiGMA Euro-Med 2025 confirmed that iGaming operators are starting to reassess their dependency on hyperscalers as costs rise and data privacy issues emerge. The promises of public cloud come with hidden fees and budgeting difficulties, pushing many operators toward private or hybrid infrastructure. But costs are only part of the problem. The main threat lies in the lack of transparency over data location and control. Data may be stored in jurisdictions that breach licenses, while external legislation such as the U.S. Patriot Act or Cloud Act allows authorities access to customer information. For operators prioritizing player protection, this risk is simply too high.
Moreover, cybersecurity and data sovereignty go hand in hand: cyberattacks are no longer a possibility but a certainty, and operators must minimize attack surfaces and manage risks. Using hyperscale cloud providers can be risky due to the complexity of their products. In practice, enabling features that operators don’t fully understand can create a false sense of security – or even additional issues. The true value of specialized providers lies in their expertise, working directly with operators to design tailored solutions for real business needs.
Cross-border regulatory pressure also remains a major challenge for operators active in multiple jurisdictions. Conflicting requirements on data management force them to duplicate systems and incur extra costs. Specialized infrastructure providers can help identify which components must be separated and which can be shared, thus optimizing compliance and reducing costs. While there is currently no requirement for infrastructure providers to hold gambling licenses, their experience and certifications would allow them to adapt quickly if regulations were to demand it. Ultimately, the solutions the industry turns to are not hard to guess: if it all comes down to control, operators can maintain sovereignty over their data and infrastructure by choosing colocation, private cloud, or hybrid models.
Hybrid Cloud and Colocation, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) – a safe bet
Combining hybrid cloud with colocation services gives the iGaming industry a strategic edge by balancing performance, flexibility, and control. Core workloads can be handled on dedicated on-site servers, ensuring consistent performance and low latency – essential for live games, fast transactions, or seamless multiplayer experiences. At the same time, cloud resources allow instant scalability during traffic spikes, eliminating the need for costly hardware investments. Operators maintain full control over equipment, software, and updates, while also benefiting from cloud flexibility and access to additional services. Colocation facilities further boost resilience and security through redundant power and network connections, reducing downtime risks. Moreover, the mix of cloud and colocation ensures strict compliance with data and privacy regulations – operators choose exactly where and how sensitive player data is stored, delivering a fast, safe, and reliable gaming experience.
Meanwhile, integrating AI and ML into iGaming is reshaping the industry by deeply personalizing player experiences and boosting engagement. AI technologies enable tailored offers and promotions, adaptive customer support, real-time game suggestions, and dynamic challenges based on user behavior – increasing satisfaction and reducing churn. ML algorithms support responsible gambling by detecting early signs of problematic behavior and enabling preventive interventions. AI also plays a crucial role in fraud detection and platform security, analyzing user activities and transactions. In game development, AI optimizes gameplay balance and accelerates content generation. In sports betting, advanced data analysis – including real-time stats and conditions – allows operators to provide more accurate odds and better predictions.
